Airbrushing Equipment And Techniques Explained
There are many ways to put an image on paper and most people will use some form of pen or brush to do this. However, there is a way to get some wonderful images on just about any surface and that is with airbrushes. In fact, these have now been utilized to put make up on models since the finish is much finer. Most people will know that photographs are altered in this way too and this has brought some rather acrimonious discussions in the press since young people want to look as perfect as the people they see there. What they do not realize, however, is that this is not a natural image at all.
This piece of equipment works by sucking paint from the well that is attached. An air supply will then spray air and paint at the surface of the canvas or surface and the artist can control this by how much pressure he exerts on the trigger.
Different types of equipment will be needed for different jobs. Artists like their own particular kind, depending on what they are producing, but these can include single or dual action. The paint is mixed inside and these are preferred since the artist has much more control over the spray, it also provides the finest spray available. This is necessary for detailed work since it is much easier and more professional to put on several coats of paint until the desired effect is found, rather than just putting on one thick coat. Not only does the surface dry quicker, it also prevents runs in the paint too.
All kinds of surfaces can be treated with this kind of action, but the one thing that people should be aware of is that some surfaces will not take some kinds of paint. Asking online, or in a shop which supplies this kind of equipment is probably the fastest way to learn which paints goes on which surface, and every time a question is answered, the budding artist learns something new.
Along with this kind of equipment there will be a need for other accoutrement. Masking tape is used to stop the spray from invading a part of the image where it is not needed. Frisketing, as it is known is a fine film that merely protects the image which is not meant to be touched.
Similarly, any type of paint can be used when doing this kind of work as long as it is thinned enough to let it go through the tip. However, if an array of different paints is to be used, it is wise to get into the habit of being extremely clean with the equipment. There are special cleaning fluids available which should help with this.
