Learn to Sing Instantly!

Have you always wanted to know how to sing? Have you ever wondered how those singing sensations on reality shows learned how to belt it out?  Or how those tenors swing their powerful finales in operas or concerts?  Have you been teased that yours is a voice only a mother could love?

Singing is a gift. But you could also learn it with proper technique training. For whatever a person does, one of the most important thing is to have the determination to work for it. Learning to sing requires determination and want too. Besides that, here are some other things that could help you become a singing sensation in no time:

The Mentor

To learn to sing, you need to look for mentors who could give feedback. Singing, being a form of performance art, requires feedback from an audience.  It is important that the potential singer hears from a voice coach. If you’re a fan of American Idol, you probably already know how Simon Cowell crushes people’s beliefs about their voices. While you gotta have faith in your talent, having a mentor is still important.  A coach could expertly listen to your voice and help you determine your current voice quality, tone, and range.A coach can guide you through a formal singing training. Joining a choir can give you opportunities for trainings and practices. It would be great if you can sing with a group because it can make your learning more holistic.

Breathe

An important part of singing is breathing.  Before vocalization, try to do some exercises, like putting your palm onto your sternum, where rib cages meet, which is the bottom of the lungs.  Do inhales and exhales for a minute, and observe how your lungs would expand and contract. Learning how to breathe properly while singing is a bare essential. This kind of training can teach you how to belt and control your voice smoothly and properly. You may wanna try holding your breath for a long time, too, as that skill is handy in a lot of songs you’re going to encounter. Remember, different songs require different kinds of breathing techniques. some more complicated than others.

Know the notes

Doing your practices with the notes is best done with a group or a choir. You get compelled to listen to how your voice really sounds like and whether you’re in tune or not.  It also gives you feedback on where you need to improve. There are certain drills that focus specifically on breathing techniques. You could also do this alone but it’s always better with other people. You might wanna check your tones with a piano if you play one. Try and replicate the sound of basic keys with your voice. To check how you’re doing, increase and decrease your pitch every once in a while. If you hit the notes the way the piano does, then you’re on the right track.

Pronunciation

Singing is not only about rhythm and flow, but also about words.  Correct pronunciation of words on the lyrics enhance the craft of singing. Words are composed of successions of vowels between consonants so it’s important that you practice vowel pronunciation at every pitch. We do have to take into account, though, that different peoples have different ways of pronouncing and singing. Always listen to the way singers sing. Having a model helps in training on a certain song and its lyrics.

Knowing your voice, choosing songs

We have heard it a million times, and we will say it again here. Knowing what kind of song fits your voice means knowing what kind of voice you have. New singers usually choose songs that don’t actually compliment their singing voice. A choir or a coach can give you an idea which songs best fit your voice. Voices find their songs as much as songs find their voices. Your voice could’ve improved, but your choice of song might be wrong. It’s not just your taste that you should consider when choosing a song.  It is also a way to show your vocal power. Voices have certain perks and quirks too. The right song could put it out beautifully.

Enjoy

A lot of guides tell you what to do and what not to do. We hardly see tips that tell you to enjoy yourself and be passionate about it. Singing is, firstly, a form of self-expression. Always prioritize your enjoyment, whether you’re pro or amateur. Practice can be something as fun and simple like singing in the shower or a karaoke night with friends; the important thing is that you sing often. Never forget that singing is to be enjoyed first and foremost.

The key to learning how to sing is not just about knowing the technicalities of singing, breathing right, or reaching the right notes—it’s about love and passion for expression, most of all.
