What Kind of Gossip Did Indonesian Talk About The Royal Wedding?
At the end of this month people from all over the world will be witnessing the marriage between Prince William and Kate Middleton. This royal wedding is certainly an important and very historic event not only for the member of British Monarchy but also for all the people of The United Kingdom. They can not wait to see the royal couple say ‘I do’ and greet people from the balcony of the palace.
Apart from the importance of this event to the family and people in the inner circle of the monarchy, the marriage of Lady Diana Spencer’s son with his girlfriend has triggered so many people in every part of the world, especially those who love gossiping, to talk about every aspect of this marriage. A group of people love to discuss the wedding gown, another group talks about where the couple will spend their honeymoon while there are also those who busy discussing about their wedding cake and who are behind the royal wedding cake.
Believe it or not, the gossip about the cake for Prince William and Kate Middleton wedding is also arose in Indonesia. In this country, more than 7,200 miles away from England, the gossip about the cake was even very hot, especially within 2 to 3 weeks ago. Here people didn’t talk about the decoration of the cake which will be a traditional multilayered fruit cake with a floral design. They didn’t also talk about Fiona Cairns, the decorator of the cake who is also a businesswoman who has gone from kitchen table baking to selling her creations to the country’s best-known stores.
What people discussing about is Michelle Wibowo. This young lady from Central Java was said to be the creator of the wedding cake that will decorate the holy ceremony of Prince William and Kate Middleton. Local medias even mentioned that Michelle is the one who produced detailed plans for the cake, which will form the centerpiece of the Buckingham Palace wedding reception. The cake will be decorated with William and Kate’s new cipher, thought to feature the couple’s entwined initials, which will be officially released on their wedding day. Another theme of the cake will be the four flowers of the home nations; they are English rose, Scottish thistle, Welsh daffodil and Irish shamrock.
The news has made many Indonesian believed that Michelle was really the person behind the wedding cake for the royal couple. People were not only discussing it with enthusiasm but they’re also very proud. But a letter from Michelle, appeared in many local newspapers last week, clarified everything.
She said that she has not been asked to bake the wedding cake for Prince William and Kate Middleton on April 29. What really going, according to her, was her participation in a royal wedding cake-decorating contest early last month at the Ideal Home Show in London, in which Michelle sculpted and decorated a cake in the form of Kate and Will. This work has made Michelle won the contest and maybe the misunderstanding was also started here.
Michelle who is now living in West Sussex in south England mentioned that the cake is covered with 10 kg of marzipan and 10 kg of icing, which has been meticulously sculpted and airbrushed to create a likeness of the couple.
‘I used this cake competition as a great opportunity to do something different, other than the usual traditional decorated round tiered cake people normally expect for a wedding cake. But again, I have to say that I have not been asked to bake the wedding cake for the royal couple,” she stressed.
